Microsoft recently announced the deprecation of Basic authentication in Exchange Online for Microsoft/Office 365 applications with an end of support date of October 1st, 2022. After this date, Microsoft will begin disabling Basic authentication for certain protocols in Exchange Online. SMTP Authentication (SMTP Auth) will also be disabled if it is not being used.

Impact on Atlas Products

Sites currently using Microsoft/Office 365 to send email through Aeon will not be affected by the deprecation of Basic authentication in Exchange Online. Atlas products use SMTP Auth to integrate with Microsoft/Office 365 email applications, which will remain enabled after the end of support date for Basic authentication if it is currently in use. No changes are required to keep your current integration running beyond October 1st, 2022.

Sites that are configuring a new integration between Microsoft 365 and Aeon after October 1st, 2022, may find that SMTP Auth is disabled by default at the organization level in Exchange Online and will need to enable this functionality to complete their integration. Please refer to Microsoft's documentation for more information on this process.
