Odyssey Access Control

The following keys are found in the Customization table and can be accessed via the ILLiad Customization Manager under Odyssey | Access Control.

OdysseyAccept

The OdysseyAccept key determines whether to allow or disallow new institutions to send Odyssey documents to your server. If set to Automatic, your Odyssey server will accept articles from any institution that sends documents using the Odyssey Protocol. When articles arrive, a notation is made to the OdysseyAccess table for the sending institution, authorizing their IP address as an Odyssey Sender for your system. If set to Manual, your Odyssey server will ONLY accept articles from Odyssey senders ALREADY in the OdysseyAccess table. All others will be rejected.

Note: If OdysseyAccept is set to Manual, ALL senders, including any local ILLiad client machines would need to exist in the OdysseyAccess table before being allowed to send Odyssey documents to the ILLiad server. The OdysseyAccess table can be accessed via the Customization Manager under Odyssey | Access Control.

Examples: Automatic, Manual

OdysseyAutoUpdateAcceptList

The OdysseyAutoUpdateAcceptList key determines whether or not to add records to the OdysseyAccess table automatically for Odyssey Senders that have been accepted by the system (determined by the OdysseyAccept value). This key is used only when the value for the OdysseyAccept key is set to Automatic. If the OdysseyAccept value is later changed to Manual, Odyssey senders already in the OdysseyAccess table will still be accepted.

Examples: Yes, No

For Shared Server ILLiad systems, OdysseyAccept is a security-related global setting for your ILLiad Web server. The OdysseyAccept value MUST be the same for all NVTGC sites, including the ILL NVTGC (regardless of whether the ILL NVTGC is actually used by the institution), before it will function for ANY NVTGC site in your Shared Server ILLiad system.

The OdysseyAccess table can be accessed through the Customization Manager under Odyssey | Access Control. To add an entry to the table, click New Record in the Home ribbon. Then fill out the field names. The table contains the following fields:

IPAddress

123.123.123.123This is the IP Address for the Odyssey sender for which you wish to allow sending to your Odyssey server.

Symbol

ABC, XYZPQDQThis is the OCLC, Docline, ISO, or other symbol for the Odyssey sender for which you wish to allow sending to your Odyssey server. The symbol field is limited to 16 characters.

Action

Allow, DenyThis is the action you wish the system to perform when Odyssey documents are sent from the specified Odyssey sender. This can be set to Allow or Deny receipt of the documents.

Fill out the fields for the sender you wish to enable and click the Save button to add the record to the table. You can also add a value by using the Copy Record button, editing the fields as needed and clicking Save.

In addition to setting the OdysseyAccept and OdysseyAutoUpdateAcceptList keys, you may deny Odyssey access to any specific site in the OdysseyAccess table by changing the value for the Action field from Allow to Deny. (These values are case sensitive.) Any symbol with Deny in the Action field will automatically be denied permission to transmit the Odyssey document to your server. The OdysseyAccess table can be accessed via the Customization Manager under Odyssey | Access Control.
