Processing Staff Requests

Print Friendly and PDF Follow

In Aeon 5.2, several new default queues and routing rules specifically for handling requests placed by staff users were added to the default Aeon installation. Requests placed by staff users (i.e., users with the status "Staff") will be routed into these staff queues by default during certain points in the Aeon request processing workflow to indicate that these requests should be processed separately from requests placed by patrons. A visual diagram and a written description of the staff request processing workflow are both available below.

Note: The staff queues and associated routing behavior are only available by default in Aeon installations that were implemented at Aeon 5.2 or later. Sites updating to Aeon 5.2 from a previous version of Aeon will not have these queues or routing rules added during the update process.

Default Staff Queues and Routing Behavior

Several staff-specific queues/statuses are available specifically for handling requests placed by staff users at several key points within the normal request-processing workflow. The equivalent state for the staff queue (i.e., the queue for non-staff requests that each staff queue will mimic in the default Aeon workflow) is indicated next to the name of queue:

Requests can also be manually routed into any of the queues listed above at any point in the request processing workflow using the Route button in the Aeon Desktop Client.

Requests for staff users in the Awaiting Request Processing status will be automatically routed to the Awaiting Staff Request Processing status/queue.

By default, this status is used for new requests when they are submitted for processing

Requests for items checked out to staff users will be automatically routed from Item Checked Out to the Item Checked Out to Staff status/queue

For more information on the Item Checked Out status, see Checking Out Items.

Modifying the Default Staff Queues and Routing

Requests are routed into the staff queues by several default routing rules located in the Routing tab of the Aeon Customization Manager. This routing behavior can be disabled or modified to prevent requests from automatically moving into these statuses. For more information about modifying the default routing rules and their associated queues, see Aeon Default Routing Rules.
