These instructions explain how some ILLiad users have successfully set up a Z39.50 connection with WMS through the ILLiad Customization Manager, allowing you to easily search your library's holdings within the ILLiad Client interface.
The Z39.50 server settings for WMS do not come standard in the default installation of ILLiad and may not work for all WMS users.
Setting up the Z39.50 connection
- Log into your ILLiad Customization Manager.
- Click the Z39.50 ribbon located near the top of the Customization Manager window.
- From the Z39.50 ribbon click on the New button and select Other from the drop-down menu that appears. A form will appear in the content frame of the Customization Manager.
- The Connection section of the form consists of values specific to your library's WMS database installation, including the database name, username, and password. The following settings are universal to all WMS Z39.50 setups and can be filled out as follows:
- Server address: unified.z3950.oclc.org
- Port: 210
-
Please refer to the OCLC documentation for information on how to configure the rest of the settings in the Connection, Searching, and Result Mapping sections.
Note: A web service key (WSKey) must be requested from OCLC and enabled to complete your configuration and connect to the WMS Z39.50 service. If you would like to setup WMS Z39.50 with ILLiad, please complete the attached form at the bottom of this article and send to legal@oclc.org. For more information on requesting and enabling the WSKey, please refer to the OCLC WMS Z39.50 documentation. For additional assistance with this process or for help configuring the remaining Z39.50 search settings in the Customization Manager, please contact OCLC Support.
