Presentations from the Southeast Regional ArchivesSpace Members Forum
Hello all,
The Southeast Regional Archives Members Forum was held on Friday, November 15, 2019, at the University of South Carolina in Columbia, SC. The first part of the forum focused on implementing and migrating data into ArchivesSpace. You can view the presentation slides here: https://archivesspace.atlassian.net/wiki/spaces/ADC/pages/903315487/Southeastern+Regional+Forum+2019
For the Birds of a Feather Discussion, I attended Brittany Newberry's discussion group on how reference staff and researchers use the PUI at the Atlanta University Center. Check out the nice customizations: http://findingaids.auctr.edu/
I also attended Kelly Spring's workshop on cleaning up and controlling data in ArchivesSpace, specifically with controlled value lists, and with agent and subject duplicates.
Attendees came from five southeastern states, and the discussions were lively. Most people agreed that container management is one of the most difficult aspects of ArchivesSpace. There was also much praise for the Harvard excel spreadsheet import plugin (https://github.com/harvard-library/aspace-import-excel), which has redefined efficiency at many institutions. A number of presenters discussed how ArchivesSpace has supported the creation of DACS and EAD-compliant finding aids.
