GitHub two-factor authentication requirement

Beginning January 11, 2024, GitHub will permanently require two-factor authentication. Anyone with access to Atlas-hosted Aeon GitHub repositories will need to enable two-factor authentication via a time-based one-time password (TOTP) application such as Microsoft Authenticator, a security key, a passkey, or text message. You can also use the GitHub mobile app for authentication. You will be asked to authenticate each time you log in to GitHub.

If you have already enabled two-factor authentication, you do not need to take any action. However, if you disable two-factor authentication before January 11, 2024, your access to GitHub will be restricted until you re-enable two-factor authentication.

Customers with access to Atlas-hosted GitHub repositories will receive an email directly from GitHub with additional information. Atlas ITS will also send a notice in the next two weeks.
