New integration addon with LibKey
Hello ILLiad Community,
I’m excited to announce Atlas Systems is working on a new Server/Decision Support Pipeline (DSP) addon to integrate with Third Iron’s LibKey. We’re estimating this addon should be completed this summer (2023). Please note, this addon does require a subscription to LibKey for use.
If you’re curious what the addon will look like, please see the details below. Note, the specifications below are subject to change as our developers may find better ways to handle the workflow once they begin work.
Overview
LibKey checks both Open Access as well as the institution’s subscriptions and provide links to the content. This addon will be written as a Decision Support Pipeline (DSP) addon to be used for pipeline stages 2 and 3 as well as a server addon. This should operate similarly to how the ReShare addon was written with supporting both the server and DSP addon type. If successful, it will save the URL to a designated field, and based on the business rules deliver it to the patron or save for staff review.
Requirements
Configuration
This is a Decision Support Pipeline Addon and is installed in the Customization Manager. For more information on the Decision Support Pipeline, see Decision Support Pipeline Overview.
The addon will operate on stages 2 (checking for availability and obtain link) and 3 (sending patron an email notification with the URL or routing the request for staff review and fulfillment) of DSP and can be configured to the Borrowing Article PreCopyright and Borrowing Article pipelines.
If you prefer to use this addon as a server addon, do not configure the pipelines above. The addon will operate as a server addon by default. Please note, just like the ReShare addon, the LibKey addon can operate as both a server or DSP depending on the queue the request is routed to.
Search Criteria
LibKey can accept both DOI and PMID for input for search criteria. The search sequence should first search the value in the DOI field, and if the field is blank, search by the value in the PMID field.
DOI example search query:
Processing Response
- When the response is returned, there are two important elements to look for:
- fullTextFile (PDF)
- contentLocation (Link to Article on Publishers site)
- If ONE or BOTH of these elements has data, concatenate the LibKey.io link and add it to the location designated in the LibKeyUrlField setting and Fulfillment Data table.
- The formulation of the output back to the user should be in LibKey.io format so that they have somewhere to “land”. Example format: https://libkey.io/libraries/{libraryID}/{DOI or PMID}
- Note: this page would contain link(s) to the content as well as potentially other helpful alerts about the content (i.e., if the item has been retracted, there is an expression of concern about it, etc.).
- The formulation of the output back to the user should be in LibKey.io format so that they have somewhere to “land”. Example format: https://libkey.io/libraries/{libraryID}/{DOI or PMID}
- If NEITHER the fullTextFile or contentLocation elements have any data, then it would follow the DSP business rules to figure out where the request should go next (i.e., checking other DSP addons or routing out of DSP).
Example link patrons may see: https://libkey.io/libraries/1390/10.1186/s12862-022-02096-5.
