System Requirements

Check server and workstation requirements for the new version by reviewing the Ares 4.5 Release Notes and reading over the Hardware and Software Requirements.

Because of framework changes, Windows XP is no longer supported with Ares. Ares is now supported on Windows 8.1 (Client), Windows Server 2012R2, and SQL Server 2014 (Server).

Ares 4.5 now targets the .NET 4.5.1 framework. This will be installed by the Ares server updater and Ares client installer if not already installed, and your Ares server and client machines must be restarted after installation to apply the changes.

Client Installation Directory

The client defaults install to C:\Program Files\ares on your local workstation. The Ares client, Staff Manager and Customization Manager all have to run locally and cannot run from a share drive.

Scheduling an Update

Remember that if you are hosted by Atlas, you need to schedule a server update before you can use the new client. There may be a brief period of downtime while the server update runs. This needs to be coordinated internally with your other staff. The downtime is usually brief enough that you do not need to communicate it to end users ahead of time.

Contact Atlas Systems to schedule your update by calling 800-567-7401 x1 or emailing service@atlas-sys.com

Updating the Server

Self-hosted sites should update their server using the AresServerSetup.exe file which will be provided by your Atlas Customer Service Agent. This file is a combination installer/updater that will install Ares on a server if not installed or update to the latest version.

The client on your server will update automatically to when the server is updated.

Updating the Client

Note that you cannot install this version of the Ares client until your server has been updated to version 4.5.

You will need to use the client installer to update your client machines to this version. Download and run the Ares client setup file from the Ares 4.5 Downloads page.

The default installation folder for the client is C:\Program Files\ares.
