Ares 4.6 Implementation Information

Follow

Keys and values changed in the Ares database are listed on Ares 4.6 Database Changes.

Changes made to the default Ares web pages are listed on Ares 4.6 Web Page Changes.

Server Installer

The Ares server installer will no longer install the Ares client. Additionally, the Ares client, Staff Manager, and Customization Manager will be removed from the server for existing installations.

If these applications are needed on the Ares server, they can be found on Ares 4.6 Downloads.

Web Page DLL Tables

The way the Ares web DLL generates tables has changed. Tables no longer allow row clicks and links can only be clicked in the left column. Some style rules will need to be updated to properly render the new table columns and headings.

Because this is a change in how the DLL itself generates the tables, all sites that update to Ares 4.6 will see this change in behavior.

Make the following changes on your main.css web page:

  • Add this code to main.css:
    table caption {
    	background: #000066;
    	color: #fff;
    	padding: 5px;
    	font-weight: bold;
    	font-size: 110%;
    	letter-spacing: 0.2em;
    	text-align: left;
    }
  • Replace the following code on main.css:

    Replace this:

    .instructor-table a, .instructor-table-nohover a {
    	text-decoration:none;
    }

    with this:

    .instructor-table a, .instructor-table-nohover a {
    	text-decoration: underline;
    }

    Replace this:

    .xlist-table a {
    	text-decoration:none;
    }

    with this:

    .xlist-table a {
    	text-decoration: underline;
    }

    Replace this:

    .student-table a, .student-table-nohover a {
    	text-decoration:none;
    }

    with this:

    .student-table a, .student-table-nohover a {
    	text-decoration: underline;
    }

    Replace this:

    .default-table a {
    	text-decoration:none;
    }

    with this:

    .default-table a {
    	text-decoration: underline;
    }

See Ares 4.6 Web Page Changes for a complete list of all web page changes in ILLiad 8.6.

System Requirements Change

For computers that use a high DPI (greater than 100%), a screen resolution of 1280x1024 is now required for all Ares client forms and grids to display properly.

See Ares System Requirements for a comprehensive list of all system requirements.

Potential Email & Print Template Issue

The following fields have been removed from the Sites table:

  • ContactEmail
  • ContactPhone
  • ContactName

These fields are different than the General or Reserves contact information found in the Contact Info tables in the Customization Manager. These fields were no longer in use by Ares and have been deleted. Existing customers may be referencing these values in email templates, which would fail after applying this update.

Clipboard Wizard Addon

If your catalog does not allow Z39.50 searching, you can now implement an addon that will copy the title from the Item record to your clipboard, allowing you to then paste the title into a search box or other window. The addon can also be customized to copy other details from the Item record such as author or date.

The Clipboard Wizard addon is available at Ares Clipboard Wizard Addon.

Changes to Server Addons

Significant changes were made to the way that Server Addons are installed and configured. If you are currently using a Server Addon, the update process will automatically convert the Addons that are installed into the new format, and they will be available for configuration in the Ares Customization Manager.

See the Atlas Addons documentation for more information.

4.6.4 Basic Update for Sites With Customizations

To implement the following fix:

 Batch tags that students add to items in a course used to be added to items that have the 'Hot List' column checked rather than the "Batch Edit" column. Now batch tags will only be added to items checked under the "Batch Item" column.

change the code in line 136 of aresBatchEditing.js from this:

 //Get the checked items
var checkedItemsArray = $('#'+ itemTable).find
('input:checkbox:checked').map(function(){
return $(this).closest('tr').attr('data-itemid');
}).get();

to this (adding the 'addTag' class selector):

//Get the checked items
var checkedItemsArray = $('#' + itemTable).find
('input:checkbox:checked.addTag').map(function () {
return $(this).closest('tr').attr('data-itemid');
}).get();
