Container Profiles: Linking

Follow

Scope

In this guide, we will describe three (3) different ways to link a container to a top container. Option 1 and option 2 are different avenues for linking single containers. Option 3 describes how to link containers in bulk.

Option 1

  1. On the toolbar at the ArchivesSpace main screen, click on the browse drop-down and select either resource or accession.
  2. Once you have been directed to the edit page, click on Container Instance on the left-hand side of the screen.
  3. In the Instances section, click Add Container Instance. There will be two required fields to fill out in this section:
    1.  Select the Type of top container.
    2. On the Top Container drop-down, choose either browse or create. A top container can be made at the same time as a container. For further guidance on creating a top container, please refer to the "Creating a Top Container" guide.
    3. To browse for the container, click Create then search the container profile by selecting Browse.
    4. The Browse Container Profile will appear; select the container profile you wish to link to a top container and then click the Link to Container Profiles. Finally, click Create and Link to Top Container. Note: There are filters on the left-hand side of the screen to help refine the search results.

Option 2

  1. On the gear wheel next to the repository name, choose Manage Top Containers.
  2. Use the search fields to locate a top container then select edit.
  3. Just like in option one, Browse Container Profiles will appear. Choose the container you wish to link to a top container then click the Link to Container Profiles button.

Option 3

  1. The final way to link a container is for bulk operations.
  2. On the gear wheel next to the repository name, choose Manage Top Containers.
  3. Next select bulk operations. For more in-depth details on linking containers in bulk, please refer to the "Top Containers- Bulk Operations" guide.
