Searching & Sending Requests: Choosing a Request to Process

To begin searching a request in ILLiad, you must first select it for processing. To do this, you can double-click on the current status of the request, usually Awaiting Request Processing, or you can use the Search Requests feature in the Main Ribbon. Both the request queues and the search results forms contain a grid housing the available transactions. If you so desire, the grids may be organized by the column headings at the top of the list. To do so, simply click on the appropriate column heading. Select a request by double-clicking on a record in the list. This will display the Request Form for the transaction. You conduct your Z39.50, OCLC, PubMed, Docline and other searches from within the Request Form.

To help prevent multiple staff users from processing a request at the same time, a request is moved into the Request In Processing status when it is opened from a Request Processing Queue. This status change will keep that request from displaying in the queue list and being readily available for processing from that list.

A Request Queue is considered to be the following:

  • Any custom queue
  • Awaiting ALA Request Processing
  • Awaiting Request Processing
  • Awaiting Document Delivery Processing
  • Awaiting Lending Request Processing
  • Awaiting Conditional Request Processing
  • Awaiting Renewal Request Processing

There is nothing to prevent another ILLiad staff member from finding that request another way–such as searching for the request and opening it from the search results--or if they had already had the request list open and the form was not refreshed, and from opening that request.

Decide How to Proceed

There are three main paths for a request to take at this point:

  1. You can search it and send it out.
  2. You can cancel it. (See   for details.)
  3. You can route it to another queue to be processed at a later time. (See Routing Requests to Other Queues for details.)

To search and send the request, first, verify that you have sufficient information to proceed to search for the item by looking at the request type and the information supplied by the requester.

Choose a Request System

Next, decide which requesting service you want to search. Currently, ILLiad will search the following services:

  • OCLC
  • Docline
  • Local Routing
